Singing and vocal technique
We offer a complete and thorough contemporary approach to vocal training, focusing on these main components of performance:
- Theoretical technical knowledge about the anatomy and vocal physiology relevant to the vocalist
- Use and care for the voice, supporting healthy practices for lasting abilities
- Practical application of this knowledge through numerous technical exercises
- Development of a personal set of daily routines
- Ear training and vocal-aural coordination
- Developing musical 'vocabulary' and 'syntax' to improve the pitch, rhythm and musicality
- Repertoire and improvisation, where you will see the actual application of the acquired skills
- Musical creativity in improvisations in styles like Blues, R&B, Soul, Rock and Funk
The theoretical technical component focuses on the following areas:
- Vocal warm-up
- Position
- Breath control and diaphragmatic support
- Elimination of constrictions—counterproductive tension for vocal emission
- Resonance, from classic colors to the most contemporary
- Twang—key resonance type for Rock, R&B, Pop, etc
- English pronunciation, focused on English phonetics applied to singing
- Articulation—percussion in consonants for very groove-based rhythmic styles
- Vocal textures, from aspirated textures to belting
- Nasality
- Range—exploration of vocal range in a healthy way
- Records and transition—voice of chest, head, falsetto, etc
- Dynamics—intensity control
- Vocal distortion—correct performance for maintaining vocal health
- Flexibility and agility—speed and precision in the execution of riffs and fast passages
- Accuracy in tuning
Ours is not a classical vocal technique or a course on opera, since we will focus primarily on today's music, in both English and Spanish.
This is a course that deals with techniques based on the anatomical and physiological study of the voice. It seeks to expand the limits of our vocal performance while ensuring the health of the instrument. Musicality, the own identity of the voices and creativity prevail over any other type of restriction. This is not classical vocal technique or a course on opera, as we will focus primarily on today's music, both in English and Spanish.
